The Town of Tonawanda Special Investigations Unit is tasked with investigating crimes related to:

• Drug sale, possession and use
• Illegal sale of alcohol, tobacco and nicotine products
• Prostitution and human trafficking offenses
• Any other specialized investigations as directed by the Chief of Police

The Special Investigation Unit provides technical support and intelligence to the Patrol and Criminal Investigation Bureaus. Detectives assigned to Special Investigations frequently coordinate their investigations with local, state and federal law enforcement partner agencies.
